November 07, Bahadur Shah Zafar dies in exile

Today on the 7th of November in 1862 CE, the last Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar died in exile in Rangoon, British Burma (present-day Myanmar). During the Indian Uprising of 1857, Bahadur Shah fought against the British. But Indians were defeated and Bahadur Shah was also captured by the British and sent into exile.

The old emperor was found guilty for helping the Indian freedom fighters against the British. He was accompanied into exile by his wife Zeenat Mahal and some of the remaining members of the family. He was buried in Rangoon.
